Droplets are produced by coughing and sneezing. They don’t travel far and are stopped by a surgical mask. “Droplet forming procedures” include:

• entering a room with a possible covid-19 positive patient AT ANY TIME inlcluding
• during labour, using entonox
• Procedures including suturing, SVD, instrumental delivery
• any procedure other than intubation/extubation and 20 minutes afterwards

Aerosol particles are produced when fast air flows over a film. Aerosol particles are small and travel far and stay airborne for longer.

“Aerosol forming” periods include:

• being in theatre during intubation and extubation of a possible covid-19 positive patient
• AND for 20 minutes afterwards
