Applicable unit policy:

There is no Obstetric Flying Squad Provision.

All emergency transfers into Obstetric Hospital should be by emergency ambulance. An”ABCDE” approach to any acute issue should be implemented with whatever options available without delaying timely transfer.

Home births

Home Birth Team / Community Midwives / Community Midwifery Unit (CMU) requiring emergency patient transfer to hospital should dial 999 for emergency ambulance.

If possible, the midwife should also phone the Labour Ward Co-coordinator of the appropriate hospital and give details of the transfer. If this is not possible, ambulance control should be requested to pass on information.
